We are sad to hear that at this time the Washington State Gourd Society Festival has been postponed indefinitely.
From their Facebook page:
In prior years the festival has been held at the Kittitas Valley Event Center.
Citing a lack of volunteers to pull the show together as well as the need for a lower cost venue, at this point no plans exist for a Washington State festival.
This is not the first time we have heard of a club having some hardship when it comes to putting together their state festival. We highlighted “recruitment” as one of your clubs goals for 2018. Simply put, without new membership into your organizations, you will find it harder to continue to put on both regional and statewide events.
We wish the Washington State Gourd society the best of luck, and hope they can overcome these short term challenges.
Later this month we will be highlighting additional ways you club can help mitigate the costs of putting on your state festivals.
It isn’t so much the cost of putting it on, it is the lack of help in putting it on. Those that have been doing the overwhelming majority of the work of putting it together every year have decided to take a well deserved break, See the WSGS web site and WSGS facebook page to keep up on what is happening. For some reason there are three WSGS facebook pages. Be sure to go to the one that says Washington State Gourd Society Presents NW GOURD ART at the top of the page. The other two are closed pages that you have to join. The correct one you do not have to join to see what is on the page. Hopefully this link will show. https://www.facebook.com/WashingtonStateGourdSociety/.
